What is the NVSWCD?

Conservation districts emerged nationwide many decades ago, tasked with developing initiatives for soil preservation, erosion control, and flood prevention. Among these districts, the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District (NVSWCD) holds its place as one of Virginia’s 47 counterparts, focusing on conservation and environmental concerns within the entirety of Fairfax County.

Notably, the NVSWCD operates without regulatory powers, and its board of directors is composed of two members appointed by the state authorities and three members elected by the general public in its jurisdiction.
